Positional Language

This week the maths focus in the reception classes has been to use language related to position.

In practical contexts we have been encouraged to use language related to position: -
Snow White is in between the cups.

Batman is on top of the cup.

Cinderella is inside the cup.

Batman is under the cup.
Spidee is in front of me.

Spidee is behind the tree.

Spidee is next to me.

Spidee is on top of the climbing frame.

Can you place your toys in different positions around your home and use positional language to describe where they are?

The Super Spiders have started school!

We have had a great start to the year in Spider Class!

We have had a very busy start to the term. We have been learning to follow new classroom rules and routines and have been busy exploring all of the different learning areas and activities out in our classroom.

Come and visit our classroom .........

This is our Writing Area: -
Lots of our fantastic independent writing is already displayed on the walls!

Everyday two Super Writers are chosen and their work is displayed on the wall. The Super Writers are then able to wear our very special super spider capes for the day!

This is our Creation Station: -
At the Creation Station we experiment with a variety of materials, tools and techniques. Many of our activities are linked to the phonemes we are learning. For 'o' we will be making windsock octopuses!

This is our Funky Fingers table: -
At the Funky Fingers table we complete activities which will help us to make the muscles in our hands stronger. This will then help us with our writing activities.

This is our Maths Area: -
We are currently learning to count carefully groups of objects and match numerals to quantities.

This is our Role Play Area: -
Linked to the story, "Dear Zoo" we have a Vets role play area. We really enjoy playing in role with our friends as the receptionist, vet, nurse and owners of the patients!

This is our Reading Area: -
This is a quiet area in our classroom where we can look at and share books with our friends. The teddies in the Reading Corner also love to have a cuddle and listen to a story read by us!

We have painted our self portraits which are on display with our classroom rules.

We look forward to our parents visiting our classroom at Parents Evening soon and sharing even more of our learning activities!

9.10.17 Learning ladybirds first month

What an amazing start to our time as Learning Ladybirds!
We have all settled in so well and feel at home at Upland.
Although we haven't been here long, we are learning so much already. We love to explore, play and learn with the new friends we have made.We are getting along so well with each other.
Whilst we have been having lots of fun, we have also been working very hard!

Here are a few pictures of our classroom.

This is our book corner. Here we enjoy retelling familiar stories to our friends.

We have been learning to count to 10 with our fingers and objects and now we can recognise the numerals!

We have been doing lots of activities related to our phonic sounds, here are just a few examples.

We have been practicing our counting and number recognition at the maths table.

We have learnt our classroom rules and we have them on the wall to remind us of them.

We have been trying really hard to improve our letter formation so we have been practicing different patterns and caterpillar letters.

We love role-play! We spend a lot of time in this area. As you can see, this week we are pretending to be different animals in the zoo and zookeepers.

We are excited for you to see more of our work at parents evening!

9.10.17 What a great start for the Clever Caterpillars!

What a fantastic start to our reception year!
We have been so busy settling into our new learning environment, exploring every nook and cranny and most importantly getting to know each other.

We have hit the ground running and have already produced so much fantastic work, which is reflected not only in our books but also our learning environment.
