Reception week beginning 24.04.17

This week our learning activities will be based around the story,

"Jasper's Beanstalk"

Literacy Focus: - For our writing activities this week the children will be recalling and writing about daily events from the story, "Jasper's Beanstalk".
This week the children will also be planting their own beans which they will be bringing home to look after on Friday.
Maths Focus: - During practical tasks this week the children will learn to use language related to capacity, for example, full, half-full and empty. The children will  also help Jasper to solve a capacity problem, finding out how many scoops of soil Jasper will need to fill his flower pots.
Our week in Caterpillar Class!
We have been busy at the water tray learning to use language related to capacity.
Full, half-full and empty.
Full, half-full, empty.

The first one is full, then half- full, then empty.
We helped Jasper to find out how many scoops of soil  it would take to fill each of his flower pots.
The children shared their fantastic homework and explained what plants need to grow. We were very impressed by your creative efforts.
Plants need water from the rain clouds, they need seeds, soil, air and sunlight.

This week we planted beans which the children will take home to look after.
We wrote a list of all of the things which we needed to plant our bean.
Linked to the story, "Jasper's Beanstalk" we learnt information about snails. We even had some snails visiting our classroom! We enjoyed picking them up and observing them closely through a magnifying glass. We recorded snail facts that we learnt together as a class, then in small groups.

Working together in small groups to record our snail facts.

Amy and Thomas  have made snails using play dough and then photographed them using an iPad.

We learnt a "Jasper's Beanstalk" song. We performed it so you can listen to it at home too!

We read together the story, "Jasper's Beanstalk" on the interactive whiteboard.

This half term for PE we will be having dance sessions. We enjoyed our first  session with our dance coach Kate.

Warming up.

Stretching

We will be learning dance routines to familiar songs from musicals. This week we began to learn a dance to the song, "Consider Yourself" from Oliver.

                 Our week in Ladybird class:

A very enjoyable first session with our new dance coach Kate!

Great galloping.

Awesome stretches.

We loved Zac and Patrycja's energy!

Investigating filters and lights.

I made green with blue and yellow. - Chloe J

Use capacity to support our language acquisition for; full, half-full and empty.

Look I got it full, half-full and empty. - William.

Using soil to solve a problem.

We wanted to see how many scoops we needed to fill the 3 different containers Jasper had left us, to help him grow his beans.

William show what he needs to help him plant a bean seed.

Charlie C and his friend read Jasper's Beanstalk on the IWB.

Olivia - I have made a flower for the garden where Jasper was.  He can have my flower if his beans don't grow.

We have made a tall tower, just like Jasper's beanstalk grew tall. - Charlie C and Albie.

Charlie C and Teddy K have been using the ipad timer to see how long it takes them to do 10 jumping jacks.

Cynthia investigates the magnets by finding out the table leg is metal.
'The little magnets stick to the table leg.'

We ended the week with an extravaganza of stacking cups, where everyone had a little go at stacking some cups.

A small group of children built a wall of cups.
Excellent concentration and determination.  Well done!

I've made my own little stack of duplo. - Zac

Look how tall the stack is, but careful to keep it balanced.  - Adam.

It is almost as tall as me

Our amazing wall!
