Bumble Bee class week beginning 31.10.16

This week the children's learning activities will be based upon the themes of Diwali and Bonfire Night.

Diwali is the Hindu 'festival of lights'. On Monday the children listened to the story of Rama and Sita (which can be found on the CBeebies website) and began to learn about how Diwali is celebrated.

We painted Mendhi patterns onto a hand template using a fine brush.

We made Diva Lamps using play dough and colourful jewels.

On Wednesday we watched on YouTube a fantastic firework display and thought of words to describe what we could see and hear.

We used our imaginations to make glueless firework pictures using a variety of materials.

We drew firework patterns on the interactive whiteboard.

We enjoyed mixing colours together using the colour paddles and torches.
Red and blue makes purple.

At our "Funky Fingers" table we followed patterns using stickers. We showed great perseverance when completing this activity.

On Thursday we all played percussion instruments at carpet time. We learnt how to play the percussion instruments and then looked at the conductor cards to know when to start and stop playing.

Our number focus this week: - This weeks focus is the number 3.

The children will also put into practise the 'careful counting' skills they have been learning to count groups of objects accurately.

Sorting numbers 1, 2 and 3.

Forming numbers 1,2 and 3.

Forest School Friday! Please do not forget this Friday your child will attend Forest School. Please make sure your child is dressed in old warm clothing. They will also need a warm, waterproof coat and welly boots. We will provide the children with waterproof trousers.

Bumble Bee class week beginning - 17.10.16

This week at Nursery the children's learning activities will be based around the theme of "Harvest".

On Monday we began our week by listening to the story, "The Little Red Hen".

At the Messy Area Table in a tray we each had cornflour mixed with water. We observed and commented on the changes that we saw when we played with the cornflour.

These are some of our observations: -
"It's all slob by, it's all sticky, it's really squelchy" Darcey

"It's really hard to dig up - it's all dry when you chop up, then it goes back" Corey

"It's hard, it's drippy. It feels like ice cream" Nancy

"It feels like slime! I'm sprinkling it in the pot. It's full up" Violet

"I'm watching it melt" Joshua

"My spoon is a scooper spoon. It sticks to our fingers, it's like cake mixture. It's really sticky and wobbly" Sydney

"It feels like duck bread in the water. It's like clouds" Mason

"It changed my spoon is magic!" Michael

Our new role play area is a bedroom. We have enjoyed playing imaginatively together based on our own experiences of bedtime routines.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we made an apple crumble at Nursery. On Tuesday we very carefully cut the apples and cooked them. On Wednesday we sprinkled the crumble mix on top of our cooked apples and then cooked it in the oven. We ate our apple crumble whilst watching a short film all about apples.

We also enjoyed making fruit pies using play dough!

Our number focus this week: - This weeks focus is the number 2.

We have enjoyed being Number Detectives in the classroom looking for and recording the numbers 1 and 2 which are hidden in the classroom!

Sorting the numbers 1 and 2.

We ended our week with some spooky Halloween themed activities!
