A little sad in Ladybirds today

Today we sadly said good bye to Ben.

He will be missed by all.

We wish him and his family all the best in their new home.

Good Bye Ben and best of luck in your new school.

Looking at Portraits

We are preparing for our upcoming trip to The National Portrait Gallery
In class we have been looking at close observational drawings of facial features to create some beautiful pastel drawings of ourselves.

We looked at our skin tones and tried to match the closest shade of pastel to our own.

Alongside this we have been using our new phonic blends to record what we can see.

The children have produced some great artwork and writing.

This week we will be continuing our fish themed activities through the rhyme, '12345 Once I Caught A Fish Alive' and the stories, 'Smiley Shark' and 'Tiddler'.

We will be teaching the skills for counting carefully groups of objects. These are:
To line up objects before you count them.
To touch the objects as you count them.
To count slowly using a big counting voice.
To remember the last number counted is the total number of objects.

We counted fishes on the interactive whiteboard too!

Phonics Focus
The letter sounds we will be learning this week are i and n.
At the Writing Area we wrote invitations.

We practised writing the letter i on the interactive whiteboard.

When the weather is very rainy and we cannot go outside we enjoy joining in with the Cyber Coach on the interactive whiteboard!

We join in with Coach Kardys exercises - it's good fun!

Bumble Bees - week beginning 18.01.16

This week at Nursery our learning activities will be based around the stories, The Tiger Who Came To Tea and Rainbow Fish.

On Monday we listened to the story The Tiger Who Came To Tea.
We answered questions about the story setting, characters and events.

At the Writing Area table we patterned tea pots.

At the Messy Table we made tiger stripes by ripping pieces of black paper and sticking them onto orange paper.

At the Fine Motor table we used tweezers to move sugar cubes from one bowl to another.
The tweezers make the muscles in our hand strong! Zachary

In the water tray we enjoyed making cups of tea!

Maths Focus
This weeks number focus is the number 8.
We will also be learning to recognise and name Numicon shapes from 1-8.

Phonics Focus

Forest School Autumn Term 2015

The children have had a lot of great learning experiences at Forest School this term. For some children it was their first opportunity to freely explore and learn in a natural outdoor environment, and for others, a chance to build on their knowledge and skills.
They have seen enormous change from the sunny, warm green Forest School in September, through the vibrant colours of autumn, to the bare trees at the start of winter.

The pictures below give just a small snapshot of the fantastic benefits of attending Forest School.

At base camp, the children are able to talk about the Forest School rules & share their experiences together. At the end of the session they come back for hot chocolate & a biscuit (after washing their hands of course!)

The digging pit is very popular for.......
Digging.....

Cooking.....

Working together......

Finding out about weight and capacity. A bucket of stones is "really heavy"!

Making mud.....

and getting stuck in it!

Look at all the treasures the children have found in the digging pit...

The children have found all sorts of bugs and wildlife, and have shown care and concern for them and their environment.

The children used natural materials to create art at Forest School

The children worked together to build a campfire. They added colourful autumn leaves to represent the flames.

Christmas time was very exciting. Father Christmas had landed his sleigh at Forest School to give the reindeers a rest (& let them eat some grass). To say thank you, Santa left a treasure hunt, the children had to solve the clues until they found some delicious biscuits and candy canes hidden in the secret path. Mmmmm!

What a great way to end our Forest School term.
